the cure disintegration
Day Twenty Three. The album you listen to most often
Well, I’ve listened to a lot of albums, and quite a few of those I’ve listened to a lot. Over the past few decades the sounds and songs shift, but that being said, I’d say that since 1989 (like 31 years ago!) I’ve listened to Disintegration by the Cure a whole hell of a lot. If there was a top 5 by year, Disintegration is of the few albums that would always be on it. Sometimes it would be joined by Darklands (JAMC), other times it might be Tim by the Replacements, Nick Cave’s Murder Ballads, Talking Heads Remain in Light, Sisters of Mercy Floodland, or Kaleidoscope by Siouxsie and the Banshees…
All of those have had many rotations, but Disintegration … well, that’s spinning forever. I know that might be a bit of a cliché, but I stand by it. The thing is, it’s not my favorite Cure album (Pornography), and it has one of my least favorite Cure songs on it (Lullaby). But the moods it holds and the dynamics it shows, and the rhythms it sheds into the atmosphere…. I can listen to it no matter where I am or how I’m feeling.
